We all know why we need to backup files on our computers and I must admit I often forget. It has become such a major problem that some of us have turned to out side companies to back up our files. One such man in Surrey, B.C. Canada, is suing the Apple computer company for $25,000 after his Time Capsule backup drive he had purchased crashed, taking with it a year of photographs including those showing the birth of his first child.
In his suit filed in small claims court, Perminder Tung said that he purchased an Apple Time Capsule in June 2009 and used it to back up two MacBooks and an iPhone. After his Apple Time Capsule crashed he took it back to the Apple Store, hoping to get his data retrieved. However once in the store he was astonished to find out that there was nothing the company could do about it and that all information on the screen, was gone for good. He was also told at the store that the product had numerous issues related to defects in the design and the power supply. He was also further angered when he found out that “Apple” had issued a recall for the Time Capsule but his particular model was not on the recall list.

After trolling the web he later found out that there had been many other Time Capsule failures, and this in turn has spawned many online forums, creating a memorial register and dubious fix-it yourself videos.
Apple were not available for comment.
Authors note: This incident shows the importance of backing up your files many times. In-fact the more the better.
This is one time capsule that won’t be buried for future generations to glean information as to how we lived, as there is no data within it.

Today’s products have defects built into their designs.. should we as consumers be able to sue companies that make printers not work after 18,000 prints for no other reason than we printed 18,000 times, or light bulbs that will last 25 years die after 1500 hours?
nice share
That would be devastating to lose all those photos. I don’t blame him for wanting to take drastic action.
Great information and advice, very good
Wow.. dunno what to say to this… except, back it up, back it up and one more time, back it up. Not too sure if I would sue, it isn’t my nature…
Wow great share I still like some hard copies ^_^
Very informative.
Good reminder. I won’t wait for that to happen to me. I will take your advice, even if i trust the product that I’m using, there’s nothing to lose if i will have some back up for my files. God bless u
i do not have anything to back up. Poor man, I feel for him.
Great article, not a product worth buying then? Thank you for sharing Steve. Best Wishes, Chris.
