Uniform Server is a great all purpose web server solution.  What seperates it from other servers like XXAMP, is that the Uniform Server is completely portable, which allows it to run off a small flashdrive in any Windows based machine without additional software or hardware.

The Uniform Server is currently in version 5.1 Nano.  Each major version has given its users many neat features, and the server gets a minor version release any of its core open software (Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc).

I began using the Uniform Server for a development server wherever I went (cause of its portability), about 2 years ago.  I can say that it has done nothing but approve over the years into a very extensible and customizable server.  It offers many plugins made by the developer themselves, and active users that increase its functionality even further, such as a mail server, and Java Tomcat.

I have said I have used this software as a development server, but don’t get the idea that it cannot be used as a full blown production server, cause it can!  It is just as secure as any other piece of software of its kind.  And the best part of the whole package, is its free of cost for all users!
