Viruses are one of the most annoying devastating things that can happen to your computer. And having an Anti-virus program to protect you, is a very simple and easy solution to the virus problem. Although having a bad Anti-virus program can slow down your computer considerably, and make it worse off than before. Choosing one of these anti-virus programs will make sure that you do not choose one that will hinder your computer.

Avast! Home Edition:

Avast is an excellent choice for the more experienced computer user. It by far has more features than most free anti-virus programs have. But the layout can be confusing to someone who does not know what they are doing. One advantage it has, is that you can install it on older window’s operating systems, because of how light the program is. Its features are both spyware removal and antirootkit capabilities, full real-time capabilities, including web, e-mail, IM, P2P and network shields, as well as boot-time scanning. Once you get it set up you can basically forget about it. So if you know someone who knows a bit about computers and can set it up, it is an excellent choice.

Avira AntiVir Personal Edition:

Avira is a very light program for all that it does. Has excellent virus protecting abilities. But lacks in an email scanner. And since it has a time-limited license, be aware that periodically you will have to renew it. It also bombards you with ads, which can be very annoying. But it has by far the best protection against virus, spyware and rootkit threats. Of all the free anti-virus programs. It’s a great program, that does great things, but you can not just install it and forget about it.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition:

Is by far the easiest to set up, install and manage. It is capable of automatically removing threats, without you having to even bother with them. The latest version AVG Anti-virus free makes further improvements to an already solid antivirus program. It now includes spyware removal, phishing and email scam protection and LinkScanner Pro. Although this slows down the computer a little bit more than the others, it does everything, does everything well, and does everything automatically. Very simplistic and easy to understand. One extra nice feature is being able to demand a virus scan. So if you think you got a virus you can just tell it to scan. Instead of having to wait for it to find it. You can also schedule it to scan your computer at any time. This is my personal choice for a free anti-virus program. And i am very very happy with it.
