Is Your Laptop or Pc Turning Off Unexpectedly? Try This!

A quick fix that may just save you a lot of money.

I have excellent virus protection and all other computers are covered in the house as we are on a wireless connection.  I am very cautious not to click on anything with a suspicious mark from my security. I am very cautious. If I receive an email from a friend with no written paragraphs and just a link I always delete them without clicking just in case it is a virus sent message.

Anyway. The problem started first of all on facebook games. After playing a game for just a few minutes the fan would start going and it got hot and turned off.  Then it got worst in the last few months and I couldn’t burn DVDs without the fan whizzing away and turning of the computer again.  Then last of all the computer started to turn off when I was using Skype with my family.  This was very frustrating.  Since we live abroad I rely on chatting with relatives on line as its the only way we can see each other.

I have read many articles on the Internet and most were saying you have a virus.  I was not convinced of this at all.  However, I have sold McAfee products and know that they offer a policy with their Virus removal service that is 100% refunded if you have no virus.  The other option was to take it to staples and have them have a look at it but I knew that would be expensive.

When chatting with my Nan (who has worked in electronic with micro chips etc before retiring) she suggested opening the computer and blasting an Air spray into the chip and fan area.  (obviously when the power is turned off & unplugged).  So I set to work with the screwdriver very doubtful that I would be able to fix it but she was convinced that dust can get into computers and if the chips get hot then the computer may turn off.  Well, what a shock.  My laptop is just 10 months old and inside it had the largest accumulation of fluff.  The kind you get floating around on the hardwood floor.  I was totally shocked.  I didn’t have a spray so blew very hard over the unit and tipped it upside down to make sure nothing was floating around in there.  I could not access the fan so I blew through the back where it was just to make sure that nothing was still up there.  I left the unit open for a few hours to make sure that no damp from me blowing remained on anything before putting it back together and turning it on.

What a shock.  It worked better than before.  All facebook games work now and I never hardly hear the fan kick in.  I have finally been able to burn some video DVDs this evening and best off all I got to chat on Skype with my Nan.  All in one day.  I am so pleased that the problem is solved as well as the fact that it did not cost a penny.  I would have been annoyed if I had paid Staples to remove a bit of fluff from the unit.

All in all, a job well done.  lol.  I never knew that something so simple could affect your computer in that way.  Especially after having it for only 10 months. I would recommend anyone having problems to check this first before anything else.  I would have never put it down to dust!

Good to know.

I have experienced this problem, thanks for the tip!

mine does the same thing but that’s because a. either the fan needs cleaning with canned air which works like an air compressor or b. the fan has overheated. I have an old laptop with the fan on the bottom and it gets overheated ever so often. I have to just let it cool off for about an hour and it starts right back up.

word to the wise….always make sure your fan is dust free!!! It will behave just as it would if it had a virus if the fan gets really dirty.
