If you can’t edit a document, the Word document might not be enabled, or the document processing might be locked for editing or password protected, or there could be groped to edit a document or text in a protected form.

Now I’ll tell you how to unlock word document when you suffer from the puzzle I mentioned.

1. This command is not available because the document is locked for editing

If the following message pops up when you try to modify a Word document: “This command is not available because the document is locked for editing,” your Word document might not be activated. To check, follow these steps:

From the Help menu, select Activate Product.
If Word is activated, a message pop up and says the product was already activated. If Word is not activated, the Office Activation Wizard will guide you through the activation process.
Note: You can open a Word document, even if the program is not activated, but you cannot use many commands, and you cannot save the document.

2. The document is locked for editing by another user

If the following message pop up when you try to modify your word document: “The document is locked for editing by another user,” Word previously might improperly shut down, while the file was still open.

The document may also be locked for editing, if the original version of the document is already open, or if the document is shared over a network and another user opens it. This applies to Word 2000, 2002 and 2003.

3. The document is protected by a password

If the document owner protected the document with a password (including a blank password), you may be limited to read-only access when you enter the correct password. If you forget or lose your password, you cannot edit the document. This change is not allowed because the document is locked

If you see this message at the bottom of the window when you edit a document: “This change is not allowed because the document is locked”, the document is protected by a limitation of treatment No changes (Read only) or Comments in Word 2003 (or a limitation of the comments in Word 2002 and Word 2000). The document author used the Protect Document features to restrict editing. The menu commands may not be available, depending on the permissions granted to you by the author of the document.
