How to Speed Up Your Pc for Free- Eight Tips

The overall PC speed drops as you keep using the machine. Speed up PC for free, right at home using these tips. Hope they help you!

All of us know that as time passes by, the PC speed gradually reduces. Then we sit and wonder how we can increase the speed of our PCs. Having to work on a slow computer can be really annoying. Your work efficiency reduces, thanks to that snail-paced machine of yours! All you can do is stare at the PC screen, and pray that the job at hand can somehow get done faster, before you lose your mind… Speaking out of personal experience here!!

To ensure that you don’t have to suffer in silence due to your PC speed, here are some simple tips.

1- To ensure that your PC speed does not reduce over time, don’t forget to defragment your hard disk drive (HDD) at least twice a month. Over time, the data that is stored on the hard drive gets fragmented and stored in random locations. When the processor needs to fetch data, it has to search more memory locations to present the file to the user. When you defragment your hard drive regularly, the data is stored in the hard drive sequentially and so, the processor can fetch the files faster. What does that mean? A higher PC speed! Give me a high 5 people!

2- Have programs on your laptop that you hardly use? I am sure that is a yes. What about those old music files, games, old images? Uninstall programs that you don’t use. This way you can free up space on your hard drive, providing the processor more space to handle other programs. Yet another easy way to increase PC speed.

3- Have an updated anti-virus software running- Always! Some good free ones are Avasat and AVG. Viruses can certainly decrease the PC speed and do more harm than that, as most of us know.

4- Install and run anti-malware programs too (Eg. Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware). They need to be run regularly so that if any malware does affect the system, these programs can sniff out the malware and quarantine it. Malware, Trojans, worms etc. can decrease the PC speed to a great extent. These are programs that run in the background and take vital information from your PC. To reduce the risk of downloading malware from the internet, keep the security level of your web browser at the maximum level.

5- Another super simple step to increase PC speed is to clear the web browser cache frequently. On clearing the Temporary Internet Files folder or cache of your web browser, you can free up space on your computer’s HDD. This again helps increase your PC speed, so that you can get work done faster.

6- Do you have enough RAM on your PC?  If your computer has a larger RAM, it means that it has more memory to perform tasks while multi-tasking (which it does all the time!!).

7- When your PC is running, there are several processes that run, which are of no use. You can increase PC speed by ending unnecessary processes. To do this, bring up the ‘Task Manager’ by pressing ‘Ctrl+Alt+Del’ and then, go to the ‘Processes’ tab. Check out the local service and system processes that are of no use. This is a trial and error method. If you end a wrong process, don’t push the panic button just yet. Restart the computer and Voila!, your PC is back to the way it was.

8-  OK, so you have tried all the steps listed above, and your PC speed is not that great even now. The last resort- reformat your Hard Drive. But remember to back up all your important files and data, before you reformat your HDD. Reformatting the HDD basically means, restoring the factory settings.

If you follow the above mentioned steps, your PC speed will increase for sure. Cheers to a higher PC speed and a happier you! …………….If you enjoyed this article, you might like: Review of Malwarebytes- Anti-Malware
