The operating system is just not secure enough to be trusted. See what happens if you try to surf the Internet with no extra protection.
We all know that Windows XP and Internet Explorer are both completely vulnerable to abusive programs such as virus and spyware. The first time I installed Internet for the first time in my computer, as soon as I opened the very first website that was my ISP website my computer was immediately infected with spyware and virus. The bouwas so bad that I lost the command of the computer it was opening and closing programs and windows all by itself. I looked at the router lights and they all were flashing, that means that somebody was getting my files or downloading even more junk. I had to reinstall the entire Windows again and I lost all my files because I had to format the computer. Even a reboot was not enough to make it work again properly.
What was the solution?
Before installing Internet again, I installed AVG Antivirus. I used to buy computer magazines so it was easy to install it without Internet access. I installed Zone Alarm firewall as well as Spybot Search and Destroy.
Zone Alarm stops more than 1000 attacks a day. As soon as I turn off Zone Alarm and I surf the Internet, I see the lights flashing even if I am not using the Internet anymore. I turn on Zone Alarm and I see the insane amounts of programs that are trying to access the Internet and were not supposed too.
It’s very difficult to keep XP secure and running properly without spending so much money on extra software. It’s more profitable to buy Vista instead.
When I bought my laptop with Vista I saw the diference. Vista already has firewall and anti spyware integrated. It was built on security and a free anti virus such as AVG is more than good enough for it.
If you can afford I really recomend you to upgrade your operating system immediately. The only problem is you need at least 2.5 GB of RAM for it to run properly. Even with that amount of RAM I press CTRL+ALT+DEL and I see that there is less than 32 MB of Free RAM left…

Yeah, I agree with you. I hear people badmouthing Vista all the time, but I’ve had Vista for 6 months and haven’t had a virus yet, while I got one every 4 months or so on XP.
well…that’s because Vista is new
When Vista become more widespread, I’m sure Vista will be attacked by lots of virus like XP.
This is like a battle between gun and armor. The armor may win now, but the gun will find a way to penetrate it.
Thanks for the interesting read. For me, Microsoft is the tool of the devil! Mwaa ha ha!
How in the world do you get a virus every four months? This article is like Microsoft propaganda- XP IS secure if you use AVG, run some spyware scans every week and don’t download movie players porn sites try to get to use. The only viruses I have ever gotten were from some random .exe file I decided to try out from a sketchy site or from some old diskette I had laying around from my windows 98 days. That’s ludicrous to say you can’t keep XP secure. Go buy a Mac.
It happened to me also, I had lost my computer control, somebady was using it from far away, somebady at a certain Barcelonan University, as it was announced by “spybot serch and destroy”
Tje problem with the upgrade is that Vista seems to need lots of space, so who have a celeron or even older machines, can not upgrade to Vista, another solution would be to change to Linux, but without the knowledge…
Thanks for sharing, you are rigth again, my claps to yor work
Thanks for the info, i will be aware of that.
this is just laughable, the last time i got a virus was from a keygen, and just as i was about to open it i said to myself this is so going to be a virus and it was – i got what i deserved.
Since then no more keygens, lol
and i run Win XP Sp2 with NO antivirus or firewall or spybot equivalent and no virus’ in so long!! stay away from dodgy sites and emails and keygens and ur fine
and i agree with Josh – i call no way on ur ISP giving u a virus the second u load up the first web page ever – proof or it never happened!!
