Conficker C Virus was dismissed as an April fool’s prank when it was reported initially. It is also nicked “April Fool’s Day Worm” and laughed off. It was reported that the Conficker C Virus is set to destroy all the data on computers it had infected on April 1. The very explanation made it more of a joke than a serious issue.
Very soon, people realized that the devastating worm is a reality when the Panda group reported that it had around 115,000 computers infected by the virus. Shortly Microsoft also released a security article that explained the reality of the virus explaining the propagation of the virus. It also created a security Conficker C patch to keep the worm out of the systems. However, it was already late. The worm was present in almost all parts of the world on computers using any operating system. Even downloading the Conficker C patch is dangerous until you are sure that you are downloading it from the Microsoft website. Many of the supposed patches on other sites invite the computer worm to your computer.
The impact of the Conficker C virus is not verified. There are not many methods to get rid of Conficker C. It is hence, advised to install the update from Microsoft and take all the possible precautions to prohibit the virus from entering your system. Once it enters your system, Conficker C removal is very tough. Normal anti-virus may not be able to remove Conficker C. You may have to use special Conficker C removal tool to get rid of Conficker C.
The main damage that the computer worm does is to stop all the Windows Update Services. Among other important services stopped by the worm are Windows Security Center and Defender in addition to the Windows Error Reporting Tool. To determine whether the Conficker C Virus is resident on your computer, run a virus scan. The scan may or may not show the virus. Check for the services mentioned above. If you cannot start the services, try to logon to the windows update and install a windows security update. If you are not able to install the update, chances are that your computer is infected.
