Defining Information Security

Information Security as a Mindset.

A business will have so much data and information that is classified according to the type of protection that is needed. For example, information is given by the need to know. Rather than just giving anyone information about the business, it is best to only give information that is needed to perform the task at hand. A business will have information of the products and services, the employees, customers, partners and employers. This information is very private at times and because of its sensitivity it is important to treat it as sensitive information. Every business will vary but some of the basic classifications of information is; public, sensitive, private, and confidential. Information security is a process that is used to protect the information of a business from any unauthorized threats. Information security will focus on the amount of availability that different types of information should have to prevent from destruction. Businesses will use this type of process to protect not only written information but also information in any business computer as well. Access will be limited and will have an effect on privacy.

Why is Information Security a mindset?

A mind set is a way of using different methods of information security to protect information. Information security is a mind set because it is assumptions that if information is studied and limited by privacy that it will be more secure internally and externally. Information security is more than a process it is a set of knowledge, skills, and work ethic used to help to teach employees privacy and confidentiality when concerning different information.
