How to Manually Use a Proxy on Mozilla Firefox

It can be scary when you’re using the internet and someone can easily track information, such as your location. Many people are using free web proxy sites to hide their internet protocol (IP) address, but these sites’ proxies are often sluggish, packed with advertisements, and are sometimes even dangerous.

This step-by-step guide will tell you how to manually use a proxy while you’re using a Firefox internet browser, so you no longer have to worry about peeping toms grabbing your computer’s information.

Step 1) First of all, if you haven’t downloaded the internet browser, Mozilla Firefox, yet, you can download it on its main page: www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Step 2) You’ll then need to find an active list of proxy servers to use. Here’s one site that will work: http://www.aliveproxy.com/fastest-proxies/

Scroll down to see a list similar to this one:

Here’s another proxy list site that works wonderfully. You’ll have to enter the human confirmation code though.

Step 3) Looking at the list, pick one of the IP:Port Host names. We’ll choose the first one as an example.

Underlined numbers get pasted into the HTTP Proxy slot in the window shown below.
Bolded numbers get pasted into the Port slot in the window shown below.

Step 4) On your Firefox browser, go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Settings. Check the spot next to Manual proxy configuration and then enter in the IP:Port Host name the same way as shown below.

Step 5) You should be all set! If you find your internet is running too slow, try using another IP:Port Host name. Just make sure you choose one from a trusted site.

If you decide to stop using a proxy server, simply go back to the Connection Settings window and check the spot next to “No Proxy”.
