Is BT broadband like Marmite? Here’s my experience.
I’ve been a BT Broadband customer for about 3 years and have never had any major problems. However after reading some of the reviews here I can say BT Broadband must be a bit like Marmite… you either love it or you hate it!
I originally joined BT BB on the 512mb service, then speed gradually increased to a fixed 2mb service for 30 quid. Since then I’ve opted for “up to” 8mb service and regularly get speeds above 5mb.
I have a BT home hub which replaced my Belkin router and the hub has performed well, it requires a reboot once in a while but the wireless range covers all my house so no problems with the laptop and other wireless computers.
I have BT BB talk which i use my normal Dect phones on. It has saved me a fortune in telephone call charges.
I’ve never had to use the customer services so can’t comment on their abilities, so please check other reviews.
I use torrents occasionally and have fairly good speeds – Similar to my father in laws Virgin media connection. Off peak speeds are excellent, and most torrents are completed overnight.
I’m on option 3 broadband so I have unlimited usage with no cap. There is a fair use policy but I’ve never had any emails from BT regarding my download amount.
I’m a mac user and never had problems with my BT service on my mac, the airport card picked up the Home hub no problems.
I can’t use some of the BT BB extras such as the Vault and Virus/security software.
I had to sign up for a 12 month contract which has now finished so I could move somewhere else as I’m currently paying 27 quid a month for 5mb connection, but I have a good reliable connection and virtually free phone calls (still gotta pay for mobile calls!).
So I’m a happy bunny and will be staying with them for the foreseeable future.
Well done BT – 4 million subscribers can’t be wrong.
